Britney Spears’ husband of 14 months, Sam Asghari, filed for divorce Wednesday and their split has reportedly taken a very ugly turn.
Asghari, an Iranian-American model, has gone from being Spears’ confidant and biggest supporter to enemy number one, according to TMZ. He has reportedly already moved into his own place and is now challenging the prenup Spears had in place prior to their marriage. Sources close to the situation said Asghari is “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid,” according to Page Six.
Sources said Asghari cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the couple’s split and is seeking spousal support as well as compensation for his legal fees.
The documents said that Asghari “has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party,” according to TMZ.
According to the same documents, “there are various items of community and quasi-community assets and debts, the full nature and extent of which are unknown to [Sam] at this time.”
Sources close to the couple said Asghari is completely out of Spears’ life and she is left completely alone in her home. The couple reportedly became entangled in an explosive fight and rumors suggest Asghari confronted Spears about rumored cheating allegations. The couple was unable to set the record straight and he proceeded to divorce the star.
The allegations of an affair have not yet been confirmed by either party.
Spears reportedly remains estranged from her mother Lynne and her father Jamie, and continues to struggle with her strained relationship with her sister, according to TMZ. (RELATED: Britney Spears Takes Raunchy To A New Level)
Spears’ ex-husband and father of her children, Kevin Federline, recently moved their children to Hawaii, further isolating the former pop star from her family.
Spears and Asghari went Instagram official in 2017 and were engaged in 2021. They married in a star-studded ceremony in June 2022. Asghari was Spears’ support system amid her conservatorship battle.
