Former first lady Michelle Obama appeared to take a not-so-subtle swipe at Donald Trump as she rattled off a list of her husband Barack Obama’s accomplishments during the opening of his presidential center in Chicago on Thursday.
Praising her spouse’s time in office, Michelle Obama credited him with “ending a war, ordering the bin Laden raid, saving an auto industry, winning a peace prize.”
She let the final line linger as the crowd erupted in applause.
Observers interpreted the comment as a pointed dig at Trump, who has thirsted after the Nobel Peace Prize (which Obama won in 2009) and had to settle for a secondhand one and a dubious FIFA version.
Former first lady Hillary Clinton, whom Trump defeated in the 2016 presidential election, was seated behind Barack Obama and appeared to laugh hard at the remark.
Cameras then caught Clinton leaning over to say something to the former president, prompting him to smile as the audience continued to cheer.
