Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) took a jab at President Donald Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. on Tuesday in a post mocking the administration’s campaign trail promise of no new wars.
“Remember when they said Trump would get us into a full-blown war with Iran?” Trump Jr. wrote in 2024. “Times like these should make us all realize how lucky we were to have Trump, his strength and his resolve.”
“My raw milk ages better than this,” Massie, a vocal advocate for unpasteurized milk, replied on Tuesday. (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that “pasteurization is crucial for milk safety, killing harmful germs that can cause illness.”)
Massie is one of a number of conservatives, including former Georgia lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene and right-wing podcaster Tucker Carlson, who have sharply criticized Trump over his war in Iran. The president turned on Massie in response to the lawmaker’s outspoken advocacy to release the Epstein files and his criticism of the war, calling on MAGA supporters to vote against him in Kentucky’s GOP primary in May. Massie lost the primary to his Trump-endorsed opponent.
Trump has dismissed the idea he’s betrayed his campaign promises, saying on NBC’s “Meet the Press” last month that he “didn’t guarantee” there would be no wars if he were elected.
“First of all, I didn’t guarantee no war. Why would I have built the strongest military in the world?” he said.
A recent Washington Post/Ipsos poll showed that 69% of Americans disapprove of the Trump administration’s handling of the war.
Trump Jr.’s post praising his father was also hit with a community note and general mockery from X users, including from journalist Aaron Rupar, who facetiously asked for an update.
Trump Jr.’s old post started seeing renewed attention as the United States carried out its 10th straight night of bombing following the ending of the ceasefire.
