Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) fired back at President Donald Trump’s scathing meltdown against multiple Democrats during Friday night’s rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where he demanded she “get the hell out of our country!”
“A video has surfaced recently of Ilhan giving a speech referring to World War II as World War 11, and they asked her about that, she still thought, she thought she got it right, but I’m not surprised because she’s a low-IQ person, and she’s also a very dishonest person,” Trump said. “And she ought to get the hell out of our country. She shouldn’t be here. She shouldn’t be in our country.”
The clip the president is referring to is a 2025 verbal gaffe by Omar at a news conference, where she misread “World War II” as “World War Eleven.” The clip quickly resurfaced and went viral among conservatives who left out the context of her correcting herself.
The president also amplified unfounded right-wing claims that Omar married her brother to enter the U.S. from Somalia, telling the audience the two are “very much in love.”
“She also calls her brother husband number one,” Trump added.
Omar herself already dismissed this theory as “absolutely false and ridiculous,” and responded to Trump’s attack not long after the dinner.
“The idiot who runs our country says this but doesn’t have the courage or evidence to come after me. This should tell you how low IQ he is,” Omar wrote on X. “Trump is who needs to get the hell out of our country because he is destroying it and making us the laughing stock of the world.”
Friday night isn’t the first time the president has attacked the congresswoman and called for her to be “sent back.”
Earlier this year, Trump told followers on Truth Social, “She should be in jail, or even a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia, considered one of the absolutely worst countries in the World. She could help to MAKE SOMALIA GREAT AGAIN!”
He also called her “an ungrateful loser who only complains and never contributes,” during a racist tirade in December where he said, “Lowlifes like this can only be a liability to our Country’s greatness. Send them back from where they came, Somalia, perhaps the worst, and most corrupt, country on earth.”
The congresswoman previously called Trump’s “obsession” with her “beyond weird” and that he “needs serious help.”
“Since he has no economic policies to tout, he’s resorting to regurgitating bigoted lies instead,” Omar wrote in December. “He continues to be a national embarrassment.”
