USA Network has added a third original drama series to its lineup: The cabler has given a straight-to-series order for “Diplomatic Immunity,” an hour-long medical drama written by Matt Corman and Chris Ord.
The series joins “The Rainmaker” and the recently launched “Anna Pigeon” as original scripted series on USA Network, which has been aiming to bolster its homegrown content under new parent company Versant.
Fox Entertainment Studios is the producer on “Diplomatic Immunity,” and the company’s Fox Entertainment Global arm will distribute the series internationally. (Other scripted series from Fox Entertainment Studios produced for an outlet other than Fox include the recently announced “Change of Heart” for Hallmark, and several animated series with A24 for Amazon.) Corman and Ord are the series’ writers, executive producers and showrunners.
According to the logline for “Diplomatic Immunity,” the series “centers on a young American doctor who is suddenly assigned to the medical office at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. He finds himself encountering challenging medical cases that require him to navigate diplomacy, government personalities and geopolitical situations — all while managing the romantic entanglements set against the thrill of a new life in a new country.” Casting has not yet started.
This reps a homecoming of sorts for Corman and Ord, who previously created the action drama “Covert Affairs” (starring Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham) for USA, which aired that show for five seasons, from 2010 to 2014. Corman and Ord’s other credits include “Daredevil: Born Again.”
