Bill Stepien, who ran Donald Trump’s unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign, has admitted the president is “running out of time” to turn things around for Republicans ahead of November’s midterm elections.
Erin Burnett, the host of CNN’s “OutFront,” noted to Stepien that consumer sentiment is currently even lower than during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, while inflation, including spiking gas and diesel prices amid Trump’s war in Iran, continues to hit some Americans hard.
“Trump has 53 days before the midterms. How does he turn this around?” she asked him. Stepien argued that Trump is “trying to address two long-term problems: a trade deficit, a trade imbalance, and an issue in Iran that every president for 50 years has been trying to fix or solve.”
“He’s trying to fix that in a matter of months, and we’re running out of time,” he continued.
The president is already attempting to “right-set expectations about gas prices going down” because “you do see the concern in consumers; they’re right at the pump.”
“There is real pain that people are feeling,” he admitted.
