Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville absolutely shredded Trump-allied Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) during an interview on Ari Melber’s MS NOW show “The Beat” on Monday.
Melber noted that some Republicans, ahead of the 2026 midterms, appear to be “throwing out whatever they think might stick to the wall or a version of what they think worked on distraction in the past” in an effort to avoid talking about pressing issues such as the affordability crisis and Trump’s war with Iran.
He then aired footage of Tuberville’s recent bizarre and widely mocked attacks on the transgender community, in which the former Auburn University football coach claimed, without offering evidence, that furries were taking over the commercial airline industry.
Melber asked Carville whether he thought Tuberville’s remarks were born out of desperation or were simply an attempt to distract.
Carville did not hold back, saying:
“Sen. Tuberville, is he dumber than concrete or is he dumber than a box of rocks? I will take his name to equate his I.Q. I think a T-U-B-E-R is a potato. That’s an apt name for him, potato. He’s that dumb. I mean, I gotta tell you, as a southerner and as a football fan, as an SEC fan, as a proud guy, every time I see that guy, I just want to call under the table, ‘Man, shut up! You’re embarrassing the whole region of the country, not just good people of Alabama, anybody that has anything to do with it.’”
He added, “That boy ain’t right at all. Not at all.”
