Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) responded to a Fox News poll suggesting his state’s voters are worried he’s too close to President Donald Trump.
During an interview on America’s Newsroom on Thursday, host Bill Hemmer cited an August network poll showing that 51% of Ohio voters are “very concerned” or “extremely concerned” that Husted is basically in Trump’s pocket.
By comparison, only 44% of voters feared the same about Husted’s Democratic opponent, former Sen. Sherrod Brown.
Hemmer noted the 51% number from the August poll and asked, “The president is coming to Ohio soon and north of Dayton. Do you want him there or ― and/or can you win without his support?”
“So look, the president won Ohio three times by eight, eight and 11 points,” Husted noted, while admitting midterm elections are usually tough on the ruling party.
He then made sure to let viewers know he is in the Trump tank no matter what.
“Donald Trump is fighting for lower prices; he is fighting for a stronger economy, and, again, I want to celebrate the working family tax cut plan, which [promises] no tax on tips and no tax on overtime and Social Security, a $2,200 tax credit for working families,” Husted said.
“These are things we have done to make life more affordable by letting people keep more to spend on their priorities,” he added.
Husted’s blatant attempt to stay in Trump’s good graces didn’t go unnoticed on social media.
