Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission Andrew Ferguson said Thursday he’s proud of the work President Donald Trump’s administration is doing to combat discrimination ― for white men, that is.
At a press conference with Vice President JD Vance about alleged abuses of work visa programs, Ferguson touted the work of U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Chair Andrea Lucas, a vocal critic of diversity, equity and inclusion.
“I also want to acknowledge the work of Andrea Lucas, who is the chairman of the EEOC,” Ferguson said. “She is the greatest chairman of that institution, since Clarence Thomas back in the 1980s.”
Ferguson then praised Lucas’ work to combat a problem that doesn’t exist.
“On every issue that previous EEOCs refused to touch: protecting white American men from discrimination, protecting American citizens from national origin discrimination … she has led the EEOC headlong to defend Americans from these abusive practices.”
Lucas has been vocal about helping white men who say they’ve faced discrimination in the workplace.
“Are you a white male who has experienced discrimination at work based on your race or sex?” she said in a video posted to social media last year. “You may have a claim to recover money under federal civil rights laws.”
Since becoming FTC chair last year, Ferguson has made targeting DEI programs his top priority. Shortly after taking his position, he shut down the commission’s DEI office and terminated its diversity council.
“DEI is a scourge on our institutions,” Ferguson posted on X in January 2025. “Under my leadership, the FTC is doing its part to end the DEI plague. We are done with DEI at the FTC. No DEI office, no DEI influence on hiring, no DEI programming. It is over.”
