However, Shapiro came to the president’s defense on his show Tuesday by suggesting the Knicks need to lose Game 4 on Wednesday night.
“I think that the Knicks lost last night because President Trump showed up. And you know why that happened? Because President Trump loves America. That’s why he went,” Shapiro said. “He went so that they would lose because it is imperative that the Knicks lose.”
Although both Trump and Mamdani are Knicks fans, Shapiro said somewhat cheekily that a Game 4 loss “is imperative because Zohran Mamdani cannot be allowed to be happy.”
“America only wins if the Knicks lose. I’m sorry, Knicks fans. I’m sorry, long time Knicks fans, especially the ones who didn’t vote for Mamdani, but you brought this upon yourself.”
Shapiro then hyperbolically claimed that “the justice of the divine will only be served if the Knicks lose, and especially if they lose a 2-0 lead after winning a couple on the road in San Antonio.”
To his way of thinking, a Game 4 loss for the Knicks is “the only way that justice — cosmic justice will be performed here,” and added that if the president “was a tool in that cosmic justice, then I’m all for it. The president may have just saved America, I guess, is what I’m saying right now.”
