“It’s like, at first I really did not believe that she and he would get married at Madison Square Garden. It’s so on the nose in terms of like, attention getting, and just so gauche,” Kelly told her guest, Daily Mail columnist Maureen Callahan on Thursday.
The couple received both admiration and criticism for their celebrity-packed , multi-day festivities event that closed streets in midtown Manhattan and reportedly costs millions of dollars.
The wedding itself began Friday and was set to run until 4 a.m. ET on Saturday, Independence Day, according to a copy of the city permit reviewed by the Associated Press.
Callahan, apparently one of those critics, told Kelly “this is like a 7-year-old’s idea of what a grand wedding is,” calling it “Taylor’s big fat Disney wedding.”
Kelly piled on the artist, throwing in a dig at the Duchess of Sussex in the process.
“You know, she’s got a little Meghan Markle in her, where, notwithstanding the fact that we all know who she is, she’s got to make sure she’s reminding us all she’s relevant. She’s everywhere. ‘Admire me, look at me,’” Kelly said. “So, yeah, it actually does kind of track.”
Callahan quipped that Swift’s wedding will “be a Netflix special.”
