Georgia authorities said that a man and a woman were killed in a murder-suicide incident in the parking lot of a Chick-fil-A in the city of Rome.
The Rome Police Department said officers responded to a call of a shooting at the Chick-fil-A at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
They found the bodies of 39-year-old Cassie Lashae Davis and 56-year-old Anthony Wayne Green shot to death in a car.
“The suspect shot the victim while she was inside her vehicle. The suspect then shot himself. Both were pronounced deceased,” police said.
Davis was reportedly shot three times with a revolver.
WXIA-TV reported that the woman had three children of her own and was taking care of four grandchildren. They also said that the man and the woman had been in a domestic relationship.
The restaurant closed for the rest of the day Wednesday but opened the next day.
The family of the victim said that Green was a jealous boyfriend.
“She didn’t have a mean bone in her body,” said Kathie Walters, Davis’ mother to WAGA-TV. “She was everybody’s friend.”
Walters said that Green would not leave her daughter alone.
“That’s one thing she told me yesterday, that he was following her around,” she said.
Davis’ aunt, Effie Wilson, said she was very distraught by the murder of her niece.
“I know she’s in heaven, but that doesn’t help my heart and nobody else’s,” she told WAGA.
“It seems like a dream,” Walters said. “I just want to wake up.”
Rome has a population of about 37,000 people and lies in the northwest part of the state.
