A Texas mother was angered when decorations she placed at her daughter’s grave were being stolen, so she set up a hidden camera to catch the culprit.
Nikki Kennedy told KENS-TV that someone was stealing the toys and other items from the grave of her daughter, Dina, who died of cancer in 2019. It happened at least four times before she decided to take action.
“I haven’t gotten ready to let her go,” Kennedy said. “I just feel like this is my daughter’s area now. This is her little garden. I just want it to look nice.”
Kennedy set up a camera that captured footage of the man taking the items from the grave at the San Jose Burial Park in San Antonio.
“This is my daughter,” Kennedy said. “Of course, it makes me upset and angry. “What in the right mind makes you think, let me go to the cemetery and takes somebody stuff.”
In the video the man grabs the items, including Easter eggs, and places them inside his coat.
“What could you possibly do with those little items,” asked the mother.
Police told Kennedy that they had caught a suspect but not the man who had appeared on the hidden camera footage. She believes another person may have been involved in the bizarre theft of the gravesite.
The mother said Dina had died when she was just 4 years old, and she has been visiting her gravesite every day.
“She passed away from neuroblastoma cancer,” Kennedy explained. “She was a feisty little girl. She went through a lot her entire life. She lived in the hospital and didn’t get to live like a child. She literally spent her entire life playing in the hospital. It just hurts me to know I lost my child like this.”
