Billionaire liberal George Soros confirmed that he is handing control of his $25 billion empire to his son – Alexander Soros. The son – who stresses that he is “more political” than his father – plans to continue funneling billions to leftwing causes and politicians.
The Wall Street Journal broke the story of Alex Soros taking over the Open Society Foundations from his 92-year-old father.
“We think alike,” George Soros said of his son.
Alex proclaimed, “I’m more political,” when compared to his billionaire father.
The 37-year-old focuses on different causes, especially voting and abortion rights, as well as gender equality.
Alex is concerned about the prospect of former President Donald Trump returning to the White House.
He told the WSJ, “As much as I would love to get money out of politics, as long as the other side is doing it, we will have to do it, too.”
“He plans to continue using the family’s deep pockets to back left-leaning U.S. politicians,” the Wall Street Journal article read.
The Open Society Foundations had funneled nearly $21 billion into left-leaning causes since 2000, according to a report published in January.
His father’s immense wealth has provided Alex with access to some of the most influential political power brokers in the world.
As TheBlaze reported in April, Alex has visited the White House at least 14 times since President Joe Biden took office.
Alex Soros has met with French President Emmanuel Macron, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former President Barack Obama, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (R-Calif.), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.).
“Alex is more focused on domestic politics than his father, he said. Alex is helping Democrats appeal to Latino voters and improve turnout among Black voters,” the article noted. “He has urged Democratic politicians to better hone their message, broadening the party’s appeal.”
He said, “Our side has to be better about being more patriotic and inclusive. Just because someone votes Trump doesn’t mean they’re lost or racist.”
The Soros super PAC, Democracy PAC, has financed the election campaigns of progressive district attorneys and law-enforcement officials.
Alex is the oldest of two sons from George’s second marriage.
However, Alex was not expected to be George’s heir apparent. For many years, Alex’s elder half-brother, Jonathan Soros, was expected to be the one to succeed George at the Open Society Foundations. Jonathan, the third child from George’s first marriage, had a falling out in 2011 that resulted in Jonathan parting ways with his father’s investment business.
Anthony Romero – executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, which receives funding from the OSF – believes that Alex “is unlikely to be the boogeyman that George Soros was for the right.”
