Action movie star and former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger said that if he were permitted to run in the 2024 presidential election, he would win and commented that he doesn’t believe that Donald Trump could win, either.
Schwarzenegger spoke to Chris Wallace on his show “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” and told the host that if it weren’t for the constitutional limitations on foreigners running for president, he would most certainly make a bid.
“The Constitution says that the President has to be a natural born US citizen. If not for that, would you have run for president?” Wallace asked Schwarzenegger, according to Variety.
“Well, yes, of course,” Schwarzenegger replied. “I mean, I think the field was wide open in 2016. And I think the field is open right now. I mean, think about it right now. I mean, who is there?”
“There is really not a person that can bring everyone together. Who is here today that people say okay, he’s not too old or he’s not too this or too that, or is that because it’s now a question about who do you vote against then who do you vote for?” the “Terminator” star said.
“You’re saying you would run for president in 2024?” Wallace continued.
“Absolutely,” the former governor answered. “Put me in because it’s, look – it’s a no brainer. I see so clearly how I could win that that election.”
Schwarzenegger added that he isn’t right wing nor left wing and that he could be the one to bring the nation together. “When [I was] running for governor, it was clear that people are looking for some new answer, not a right wing or left wing, but someone that can bring the nation together and doesn’t see the other party as the enemy.”
The actor also reportedly expressed that he doesn’t believe Trump will be able to win the 2024 election. “I don’t think it’s going to happen,” he said, according to KFOR.
“I just don’t think that you get reelected with 30 percent or 33 percent of the people voting for you in your polls,” Schwarzenegger claimed of Trump. However, in a summary of polling from RealClear Politics, Trump is polling ahead of President Biden by two points on average at 45.3% in general election polls.
In fact, no poll dating back to August 2022 has had the former president garnering under 39% of the vote.
“You need the swing voters. You need the independents, you need everybody to jump in there in order to win,” the 75-year-old said. “And so the question is, can he do that … I believe he can’t.”
“Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” is available on HBO’s Max streaming service.
