Aug 14 (Reuters) – CBS News said on Monday Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews, award-winning journalist and veteran news executive, has been named president, after Neeraj Khemlani stepped down from the position on Sunday.

The network also appointed insider Wendy McMahon as president and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures. She had previously shared oversight of the divisions with Khemlani.

Ciprian-Matthews, who has been with CBS News for 30 years, joined the company as a senior producer for live segments for the morning news. She most recently served as the executive vice president for newsgathering.

She will now have top editorial oversight for CBS News and oversee the network’s news content across all platforms, including broadcast, streaming, digital and radio.

Before joining CBS News in 1993, Ciprian-Matthews was the managing editor of CNN’s New York bureau. She started her career as a general assignment reporter for the National Public Radio Spanish-language news program “Enfoque Nacional.”

Some of the major news events she covered in her career include the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo in the late ’90s, bombing of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania and the deadly earthquakes in China, Haiti and Chile.
