Texas woman arrested for allegedly making violent threats against Obama-appointed judge overseeing Trump criminal case

A woman in Texas was arrested for allegedly making violent threats against the judge overseeing an election fraud case against former President Donald Trump.

Federal prosecutors accuse Abigail Jo Shry of Alvin, Texas, of leaving a voicemail on Aug. 5 threatening to kill U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan and Democrat Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas.

The criminal complaint says that Shry admitted to leaving the threatening voicemail after investigators were able to trace the call.

Prosecutors said the message began, “Hey, you stupid slave,” and followed with a racial epithet. Shry then allegedly threatened to kill those who were against Trump, including “all Democrats in Washington D.C. and all people in the LGBTQ community,” along with Chutkan and Lee.

“You are in our sights, we want to kill you,” Shry is accused of saying. “If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you, so tread lightly, b****.”

Chutkan was nominated in 2014 by former President Barack Obama and was assigned to the case against Trump in regards to his alleged efforts to overturn the official results of the 2020 presidential election.

Shry is charged with one count of transmitting a threat to injure another person. If convicted, she faces up to a maximum prison sentence of five years.

Magistrate Judge Sam S. Sheldon ordered Shry to be held without bond during a hearing on Monday where he noted that she had previously been charged with similar conduct. Sheldon said that Shry was out on bond for a charge of misdemeanor threat causing fear of imminent serious bodily injury when she allegedly made the call to Chutkan.

On Friday, Chutkan warned Trump’s attorneys during a hearing against “inflammatory” statements in the media that might threaten the trial process.

“I caution you and your client to take special care in your public statements about this case,” said Chutkan to Trump lawyer John Lauro. “I will take whatever measures are necessary to safeguard the integrity of these proceedings.”
