A mother in Ohio has been begging police to stop releasing her son for alleged car thefts after she has turned him in several times.
Tiffany Hammons told WBNS-TV that her 17-year-old son won’t stop stealing cars, and she thinks Columbus police aren’t doing enough to stop him.
“I’ve been begging and pleading — please arrest him, lock him up, do something that’s going to make him pay for the things that he’s out here doing,” said Hammons.
WBNS said that there have been 7,330 car thefts reported in Columbus between January and August of this year. Of those, there have been 3,677 Kia and Hyundai thefts.
Hammons said police have caught her son stealing or crashing cars but that they keep bringing him back to her home.
“I think him seeing that nothing is being done is giving him more of an adrenaline rush to go back out and do it again,” Hammons explained.
“Since he’s left, that I know of, he’s crashed five cars. And I reported each and every one that I know of, and he’s still out there,” she added.
Hammons said her son is also driving without a license. She told WBNS that she is exasperated about her son’s allegedly criminal behavior.
“We’re trying, but once they’re here and they leave again, then what? What are we supposed to do?” she asked.
She also spoke with WBNS in 2021 after two of her brothers died within the span of a year, one from being shot in the back and the other under mysterious circumstances.
“You don’t know why this happened or how it happened or when. So we just want closure, knowing what happened,” she said at the time.
