George Floyd’s family is furious over jokes made by Tony Hinchcliffe on May 10 during “The Roast of Kevin Hart.”
During Hinchcliffe’s time on the microphone, he addressed Hart directly and proclaimed, “The black community is so proud of you, right now George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard that he can’t breathe.”
Hinchcliffe famously jabbed at Floyd during “The Roast of Tom Brady” in 2024.
Travis Cains, a spokesman for The Gianna and George Floyd Foundation, blamed Hart for allegedly allowing Hinchcliffe back to a roast and expressed disappointment in the decision. Cains told TMZ that Hart apparently condoning the joke is “sad for the culture.”

TMZ reported that Floyd’s family was appalled by Hinchcliffe’s repeated jokes over Floyd’s death.

Floyd’s family and friends believe Hinchcliffe is a “racist comedian,” and they questioned how Hart would feel about the situation if “one of his friends” had died, according to TMZ.
“We are trying to rebuild things for our community and make things better in our community,” the foundation told TMZ. (RELATED: Pete Davidson Ignites Fiery Debate Over Comedy With Charlie Kirk Joke)

“Let’s try to be a little bit more positive — and not sit up there doing colon inspections by white comedians,” the foundation added.
Some people, however, pushed back against online criticism and defended the roast on social media.
Last night, the hilarious roast of Kevin Hart definitively showed that WOKE IS DEAD.
I was amazed how @TonyHinchcliffe, @Shanemgillis & others pulled off several highly offensive jokes (like the one below) at such a Hollywood-centric event that would’ve been the target of… pic.twitter.com/bpwuSaBcdI

Garrett Gravley with the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) in a post on X said that a roast is “supposed to be irreverent and scathing.”
Tony Hinchcliffe also made a Charlie Kirk joke. And a George Floyd joke. And a joke about Sheryl Underwood’s husband’s suicide. Any comment on that?
It’s a roast. It’s supposed to be irreverent and scathing. Joan Rivers and Gilbert Gottfried made careers out of such jokes. https://t.co/keXgALWun7

When Hinchcliffe roasted Brady in 2024, he told Rob Gronkowski that he “looked like the final boss in George Floyd the video game.”
