Jimmy Kimmel on Monday fact-checked President Donald Trump over his latest election conspiracy.
“Trump’s especially mad at the Democrats in our state, California, because it would appear that his excellent choice for mayor of L.A., Spencer Pratt from ‘The Hills,’ is about to be headed for them,” Kimmel said.
Indeed, Pratt landed in third place in the state’s jungle primary. Since only the top two finishers will advance to the November runoff election, Pratt is projected to miss the cut ― and Trump has cried foul, as he’s done in just about every election that hasn’t gone his way.
But Kimmel said there’s a reason Pratt fell further behind as the votes were counted.
“Most people in L.A. vote by mail,” Kimmel explained. “And a lot of us waited until the last minute to send in our ballots because we’re trying to figure out which candidate disappointed us the least. That meant Spencer Pratt got out of the gate in second place because they counted all the in-person votes first. But as the mail-in votes came in, he dropped to third.”
Trump, however, claimed that Democrats ― whom he called “Dumocrats” ― were trying to “steal” the election with “very late and massive numbers of mail-in ballots.”
Kimmel tore into the logic of the president’s claim.
“All right, let me get this straight: The ‘Dumocrats’ rigged the election, and they rigged it by having Republicans take the lead at first?” Kimmel said. “I mean, for a bunch of ‘Dumocrats,’ they sure are smart about stealing every election.”
Kimmel said this was a preview of things to come as the nation heads to the midterm elections in November.
“You’re gonna be hearing a lot about this over the coming months,” he predicted.
