Seattle’s far-left Mayor Katie Wilson reportedly fired Police Chief Shon Barnes on Wednesday night, just days after a deadly mass shooting rocked the city and triggered fierce scrutiny of City Hall’s disastrous response.
According to five sources who spoke to FOX 13 Seattle, Barnes began texting people Wednesday evening about his dismissal.
He had been scheduled for one-on-one media interviews that afternoon, but those were abruptly canceled. Barnes appeared at a silent vigil for the victims around 6:30 p.m., placed flowers, then left abruptly for a meeting with the mayor, after which he was told to resign.
According to KIRO Newsradio, Barnes reportedly refused to resign.
Investigative journalist Brandi Kruse reported that, according to her sources, Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes has been told to resign or be fired and could be out as early as Thursday, while officers reportedly describe City Hall as being in “absolute, rudderless chaos.”

Neither Wilson nor her office had publicly provided an official reason for the stunning dismissal at the time of publication.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, police arrested a 15-year-old suspect following the shooting. Investigators said multiple individuals apparently exchanged gunfire as innocent bystanders were caught in the crossfire.
Barnes was not even in Seattle when the bloodshed erupted. He was attending a National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives conference in Dallas.
Seattle residents were then forced to wait approximately five hours before city officials held a public briefing about the shooting. Wilson’s office also initially released inaccurate information claiming that two suspects had been taken into custody when only one had been arrested.
When Barnes finally faced reporters Monday, he became visibly agitated after South Seattle Emerald reporter Connor Nash questioned him about his absence and reports that he frequently left the city.
“I don’t have to tell you where I go,” Barnes snapped before moving within approximately a foot of the reporter, according to Nash’s account.

The department subsequently released Barnes’s schedule, which reportedly showed seven planned conference trips and four trips to Chicago, where his family resides.
Wilson inherited Barnes from former Mayor Bruce Harrell but announced in December that she would keep him as police chief. Now, only seven months into Wilson’s socialist administration, Barnes is out.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that an internal email from Barnes instructed officers to divert drug-possession and drug-use cases away from prosecution and into the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program. Wilson denied that her administration had ordered police to stop arresting people for open drug use.
