5 Monthly Dividend ETFs Paying 7 to 14 Percent to Ride Into 2027

Quick Read

  • QQQI generates a ~16% monthly distribution yield using Nasdaq-100 covered calls, while JEPQ matches with ~11% at a cheaper 0.35% expense ratio.

  • GPIQ’s lighter call overlay on holdings like NVDA and AAPL produced a 25% one-year return, making it the best performer of the three covered-call ETFs.

  • The most widely read finance newsletter on Substack isn’t published by a bank, it’s Doomberg, where 383,000+ readers get the energy and macro analysis the mainstream press misses. 24/7 Wall St. readers save 17% on their first year here.

Income investors heading into 2027 face a market where the Fed Funds Rate has remained at 3.75% for 8 months, and the 10-year Treasury is near 4.65%. That is a respectable risk-free floor, but insufficient for retirees drawing on portfolios or investors wanting monthly cash flow. The five ETFs below, NEOS Nasdaq-100 High Income ETF (NASDAQ:QQQI), JPMorgan Nasdaq Equity Premium Income ETF (NASDAQ:JEPQ), Goldman Sachs Nasdaq-100 Premium Income ETF (NASDAQ:GPIQ), Virtus InfraCap U.S. Preferred Stock ETF (NYSEARCA:PFFA), and SPDR Portfolio High Yield Bond ETF (NYSEARCA:SPHY), pay monthly and carry distribution rates ranging from roughly 7% to 14%.

Each pulls income from a different engine. Three write calls on the Nasdaq-100 with different intensities. One layer’s modest leverage on preferred stock. One collects coupons from junk bonds. The distinction matters more than the headline yield.

QQQI: The Highest Payout on the List

The aggressive income choice among the Nasdaq covered call cousins is QQQI. NEOS writes data-driven index calls on the Nasdaq-100 and relies on Section 1256 tax treatment to have more of the distribution qualify as a return of capital or long-term gains rather than ordinary income.

Trailing 12-month payouts total $7.62 per share against a current price of $55.14, working out to a distribution rate of around 15.8%. Monthly checks in 2026 have ranged from $0.6089 to $0.6589. The fund delivered a 19% total return over the past year, showing the call overlay has not fully capped participation in the Nasdaq’s move.

Before Doomberg published a word, its team spent long careers in heavy industry, private equity, and the hard sciences. They take no advertisers and serve no institution — which is why their lateral-thinking coverage of energy, finance, and geopolitics reads nothing like consensus financial media. Doomberg has set aside a discounted rate exclusively for 24/7 Wall St. readers — it isn’t available on their main page.

The expense ratio of 0.68% is competitive within the category. The trade-off is straightforward: the more the manager writes calls to boost income, the less upside the fund captures if mega-cap tech continues to rise.

JEPQ: The Scale Leader

The covered-call ETF category was brought into the mainstream by JEPQ. J.P. Morgan actively runs it, using equity-linked notes rather than exchange-listed options to synthesize the covered call payoff, enabling more precise strike selection and expiry management. The underlying stock sleeve mirrors Nasdaq-100 exposure with concentration in NVDA at 6.91%, AAPL at 6.61%, GOOGL at 5.28%, MSFT at 5.03%, and AMZN at 4.34%.

Recent distributions have climbed meaningfully. The August 2026 payout of $0.70497 was the biggest monthly check in the fund’s history, and the current implied yield sits near 10.9%. Total return over the past year came in at 21%, ahead of QQQI on a price-plus-distribution basis.

The 0.35% expense ratio is the cheapest of the three Nasdaq covered-call funds. The main friction is the tax treatment: distributions are generally taxed as ordinary income. Holding it inside a Roth or IRA sidesteps that issue.

GPIQ: The Growth-Tilted Alternative

Goldman Sachs built GPIQ with a lighter hand on the call overwrite. The manager writes calls on a smaller portion of the notional Nasdaq-100 exposure than either QQQI or JEPQ, allowing shareholders to keep more upside during rallies while accepting a lower distribution rate in exchange.

A 25% one-year return and 16% year-to-date have been posted by GPIQ, both ahead of QQQI and JEPQ. Distribution yield lands near 9.9%, with monthly payouts running from $0.4319 to $0.51923 in 2026. Top holdings mirror the other two funds, anchored by NVIDIA at 8.51%, Apple at 7.31%, and Microsoft at 5.60%.

For investors wanting most of the yield without sacrificing long-term compounding, GPIQ is the more balanced tool. If the Nasdaq goes sideways or drops, the lighter call premium generates less of a cushion.

PFFA: The Contrarian Pick

Virtus InfraCap runs an actively managed portfolio of U.S. preferred stocks with modest leverage layered on top, amplifying both the income stream and interest-rate sensitivity. The fund holds 188 preferred issues across roughly 300 positions, with heavy concentration in financials, energy infrastructure, and REIT preferreds. Larger weights include Energy Transfer, Apollo Global Management, KKR, and Flagstar Bank.

Monthly distributions have been fixed at $0.1725 for 2026, translating to an annualized rate of roughly 9.9% at the current price of $20.88. Net assets sit at $2.35 billion. A 1-year total return of 7% lags the Nasdaq covered-call group, which is appropriate for a rate-sensitive fixed-income proxy when tech is leading.

Two considerations before buying: the 2.11% expense ratio is high because it includes leverage costs, and leverage cuts both ways. If long yields spike, PFFA will feel it more than an unlevered preferred fund.

SPHY: The Fixed-Income Diversifier

The only fund on this list whose income comes from bond coupons rather than option premiums or preferred dividends is SPHY. State Street tracks the ICE BofA US High Yield Index and holds 1,923 securities, giving broad exposure to the U.S. junk bond market at an expense ratio of just 0.05%. That is the cheapest fee in the entire high-yield ETF category.

Distribution yield sits around 7.2%, the lowest on this list but backed by contractual coupon payments. AUM has reached $11.63 billion, and the fund’s 0.38 beta relative to equities reflects a different risk profile. A 6% one-year total return is muted, but the correlation with the Nasdaq basket across the first four funds is much lower.

The tradeoff is credit risk. If the economy weakens in 2027, default rates rise, and high-yield spreads widen, putting pressure on SPHY’s NAV. That is the price of an income stream not tied to how tech stocks trade next quarter.

Which One Fits Which Investor

Investors wanting the biggest monthly check and comfortable with Section 1256 tax treatment tend to gravitate toward QQQI. GPIQ offers tech exposure with more upside participation. JEPQ splits the difference and offers the deepest liquidity and the lowest fee of the three. PFFA belongs in portfolios that already hold covered-call funds and need a preferred-stock income sleeve. SPHY is the true diversifier: lower yield, credit risk instead of equity risk, and a fee low enough to hold as a permanent income allocation.

What $28 a Month Buys a Serious Investor

Through this reader link, 24/7 Wall St. readers get their first year of Doomberg for $332 — 17% off the standard $400, which works out to about $28 a month. That buys six to eight deeply researched articles a month on energy, finance, and geopolitics, the full archive, and one of the most resource-rich comment sections anywhere, where engineers, executives, and fund managers add context under every piece. After the first year it renews at the standard rate, and you can cancel anytime. If today’s article touched energy or the macro picture, odds are the green chicken has already gone three layers deeper — see for yourself at the discounted rate.
