Kristen Stewart, who became a star after portraying vampire Bella Swan in the Twilight films, says she wants a reboot where her character is a lesbian.
The five-film series, which began in 2008 and finished up in 2012, was based on the young adult books by author Stephenie Meyer and followed the tale of Bella Sawn, a high schooler who fell in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). They eventually marry and have children and Bella is later turned into a vampire herself.
The entire film series is based on Swan’s and Cullen’s love affair, but now Stewart wants to upend their entire saga for LGBTQQIAAP2S+ “representation.”
The actress engaged with the idea during an appearance on the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen podcast where she was asked about her previous comment about being open to a reboot of the Twilight series.
Stewart’s The Wrong Girls co-star Alia Shawkat was also on the show, and she jumped in saying, “Bella would come back and be like ‘I’m gay,” a bit that had Stewart laughing.
But Stewart, who identifies as bisexual, quickly warmed to the idea and thought it would be great if her lesbian spouse, Dylan Meyer, would write the script.
“I’m gonna fuck your whole family,” Stewart riffed as a line of dialogue. She then added, “I’ve never said those words in conjunction with each other. God, it felt good.”
