Former Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.) wondered aloud Monday whether Donald Trump’s increasingly “bizarre” AI slop posting sprees are actually part of an intentional effort to tank Republican chances in the 2026 midterm elections.
Trump’s latest slop spree included an image that renamed the state of New Mexico as “New America,” following on from his earlier orders to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America” and the Gulf of Mexico as “Gulf of America.”
MS NOW’s Peter Alexander asked Dent why Trump was doing things like this “when Americans are begging for answers on affordability” and an end to the war he launched against Iran in February.
Dent called it “a total distraction away from the real issues and I think most Americans look at this and they say, ‘What is he doing?’”
“The president of the United States needs to be focusing on the hard issues, resolving this war, dealing with affordability,” he said. “And he continues to obsess over the ballroom and the Kennedy Center and the Reflecting Pool. I mean, all these sorts of things that are completely irrelevant to Americans’ lives. And frankly they think it’s bizarre.”
“These are not helping the president or his party. It’s hurting his own team,” said Dent. “It’s almost like there’s an intentional act to undermine your own party’s prospects in the midterms.”
Alexander agreed, suggesting that “one time after another the president does everything Democrats are begging him to do and he hands it to them.”
Dent made a similar argument during an appearance on CNN’s “News Central,” again calling Trump’s antics “a total distraction.”
“If the president is going to engage in these sorts of distractions, he might want to engage in distractions that actually would help Republican candidates,” he said. “This is not helping.”
“By not focusing on the cost of living and dealing with the issues that Americans care about, I think he’s hurting himself and, more importantly, he’s hurting his party at times,” he continued.
“I almost think it’s intentional that he is doing things to undermine his own party’s prospects in the upcoming midterm,” Dent suggested.
“I can’t find one Republican who thinks this is a good idea.”
