Four members of Colbert’s former team, whose taunting gags often struck a nerve with the president, have reunited for a new podcast called “Jokes On News.”
Eliana Kwartler, Michael Cruz Kayne, Asher Perlman and Steve Waltien dropped their debut, 36-minute-long episode, titled “We Wrote For The Late Show. Now We Do This,” on Thursday.
It’s for fans “of watching late-night television and laughing about the absurdity of what’s happening,” Kwartler said at the top of the show.
The quartet wasted no time mocking the president and his administration, taking aim at the GOP’s much-ridiculed midterm convention, Trump’s pledge to give Americans $5,000 if Republicans retain control of both the House and Senate, and more.
“Apparently, last year, two nights before Thanksgiving, Trump called Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and said, ‘Mike, we’ve got to do a midterm convention,’ and Mike Johnson responded, ‘That’s not a thing.’ And then Trump responded, ‘Make it a thing,’” said Kwartler, teeing up the joke:
“And look, in fairness, we’ve all gotten high with our cousins in the garage two nights before Thanksgiving and come up with what we thought was an amazing idea.”
