A California cop’s routine burglary call went hilariously off the rails thanks to one reportedly large “dirty rat.”
The officer found no evidence of a break-in when responding to the alarm Wednesday but did come face-to-face with a sizable rodent, the San Mateo Police Department wrote on Facebook.
He screamed “like a teenage girl watching her favorite boy band perform,” according to the department.
And his attempt to dodge the animal only made matters worse, it said.
“Jumping around like he was playing ‘The Floor is Lava’ landed him trapped in a sticky situation,” police revealed. “Five sticky rat traps to be exact.”
The department shared images of the traps stuck to the officer’s boots, noting how his partner rushed to the rescue without knowing what had happened and, despite feeling the rat skitter across his boot, maintained “courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn, or ridicule.”
The rat escaped and “is still outstanding,” the department said. The officer, meanwhile, was “freed from the traps to fight crime for another day. “
Police added one big takeaway: “We do know rat traps also work on humans and had there been an actual burglar, the rat likely would have detained him for us.”
