Last week, Trump held an elaborate state dinner in honor of Chinese leader Xi Jinping, even though he has repeatedly, and for years, said he’d never do such a thing.
“I wouldn’t give him a state dinner like we do for China and all these other people that rip us off where we give them these big state dinners,” Trump said when he was a candidate in 2016 in a clip that Kimmel aired on Monday night. “We give them state dinners like you’ve never seen. We shouldn’t have dinners at all.”
Trump also claimed that such dinners cost a fortune, and he wouldn’t host them.
“See if you can guess what the orange chicken did over the weekend,” Kimmel said. “Well, that’s right. He hosted a lavish state dinner for the president of China.”
