President Donald Trump on Monday called aide Natalie Harp to join him on stage at a rally in Nebraska, where he compared her to a model on a TV game show.
“Natalie, come out,” Trump called from the stage, asking her to bring an executive order allowing for the sale of tax-exempt diesel because fuel prices have soared to historic highs due to his 7-month war in Iran. “Bring it out. I’ll sign it right here!”
Harp, the 30-something aide who is never far from the president’s side, emerged to cheers to give him the document. Trump signed it, tossed the pen into the audience, then handed the document to Harp and patted her on the shoulder.
“She reminds me like ‘The Price Is Right,’” Trump said after watching Harp leave the stage.
“The Price Is Right” is a long-running game show known for featuring models who present the prizes. When Bob Barker hosted the show, the models were known as “Barker’s Beauties.” The models were exclusively women for decades until men joined the lineup in 2012.
Trump then seemed to place Harp in that scenario: her on the show or even getting one of her own.
“Thank you, Natalie! Come on!” he said. “This perfect person comes up, hands it, walks off. We should go on television with this show, right?”
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said Harp is like Trump’s human comfort blanket or “binkie.”
Critics weren’t impressed by Harp’s moment in the spotlight:
