HBO is bringing back the popular comedy “Girls,” 10 years after its series finale.

The Lena Dunham comedy show, which ran from 2012 to 2017, will be returning for a limited five-episode run sometime in 2027, the cable channel announced on Tuesday.

Dunham will be joined on the mini-revival by original cast members Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannalls.

Adam Driver, who also got his break on the series, was not mentioned in the revival announcement, the Hollywood Reporter noted.

No premiere date for the revival has been announced, but Dunham and the other returning cast members dished on the reunion on Instagram.

Zosia Mamet, Allison Williams, Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke pose together at HBO’s “Girls” sixth and final season premiere at Alice Tully Hall on Feb. 2, 2017, in New York.

Dunham explained the reason for returning in a statement accompanying the announcement.

“We always said we would only return to ‘Girls’ if there was a specific story we were burning to tell,” Dunham said. “I’ve missed these characters, but for a long time I couldn’t quite picture them in the present day. Then, right around my fortieth birthday, they started talking to me in the shower. And, as you may remember, once this fivesome starts talking, it’s pretty hard to get them to stop.”

“It’s rare that you get the chance to return to something that changed your life with the gift of hindsight and a whole new level of gratitude and understanding. I love these girls (and boy), our friends at HBO and all the people who have continued to discover the show and remind us afresh why we do this, which is the joy of being together… and the chance to wear yellow mesh.”

This isn’t exactly a surprise.

Variety notes that Dunham has long expressed interest in reviving “Girls” on multiple occasions.

In an essay on her Substack page, Dunham hinted at how the characters have fared over the last decade.

“We are not, strictly speaking, girls anymore. We couldn’t be called precocious, coquettish or fawn-like,” she said. “We are older than notorious literary spinsters Bridget Jones, Miss Havisham and Blanche DuBois.”
