After the game, Milei posted a tweet declaring a “WORLD CELEBRATION,” and promised a national holiday to honor “the achievement reached by the Argentine National Team.”
“Given the concern about the celebrations for the achievement reached by the Argentine National Team, I inform the population that, depending on what the Players and the Technical Staff decide regarding the day to celebrate, it will be declared a national holiday,” he wrote, according to an X translation.
But since Argentina won in 2022, and was expected by many to repeat, many people on social media wondered if the president had prewritten his post, assuming the team would win.
It appears the celebration for the Argentine team’s second-place showing is legit, as Milei’s post, which has been liked more than 157,000 times, remained up on social media as of Monday afternoon.
