Bill Barr debunks false information that a top Democrat spread about the infamous FBI document on Biden

Former Attorney General Bill Barr said Tuesday that Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) spread false information about the infamous FBI document involving President Joe Biden.

What did Raskin say?

After the FBI met with Raskin and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comey on Monday — showing them an investigative document that purportedly shows that Biden engaged in a “criminal bribery scheme” as vice president — Raskin dismissed the seriousness of the allegations by claiming the Justice Department had already explored them but closed any probe.

According to Raskin, Barr “handpicked” U.S. Attorney Scott Brady in January 2020 to investigate the allegations.

Then, in August 2020, Raskin claimed that Barr and Brady “signed off on closing the assessment” because they “found no evidence to corroborate” the allegations.

What did Barr say?

The former attorney general told the Federalist that Raskin’s recollection of events is not true.

“It’s not true. It wasn’t closed down,” Barr said.

“On the contrary,” he explained, “it was sent to Delaware for further investigation.”

Barr’s explanation means a Washington Post story, which reported essentially what Raskin said in his statement, is also incorrect.

The explanation actually corroborates what Comer said after the meeting on Monday. He said that FBI officials had “confirmed” that the allegations in the document had “not been disproven,” reiterating “several times the information contained within it is currently being used in an ongoing investigation.”

Comer later said he was not certain about the nature of that investigation, but assumed the “ongoing investigation is in Delaware.”

On Tuesday, Comer admonished Raskin for having “walked straight out there and lied to the American people.”

“The FBI said four times in that briefing that he and I sat in that this was part of an ongoing investigation,” Comer said on Fox News. “That was their primary reason for not wanting to release this document.”

Meanwhile, the House Oversight Committee will consider a resolution on Thursday to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress. Although the FBI brought the Biden document to Capitol Hill, Comer said anything short of turning it over to Congress fails to comply with the subpoena.
