Cellphone video captured a woman who was shooting randomly at cars on a highway bridge in San Francisco, California.
Drivers on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge began reporting the nude woman to 911 dispatchers at about 4:38 p.m. on Tuesday, according to investigators.
“The suspect briefly stopped in traffic lanes and exited her vehicle where she brandished a knife and started yelling at drivers in other vehicles,” read a summary from the California Highway Patrol.
The woman allegedly threatened to stab people with a knife and then began shooting a handgun randomly at cars and into the air. She also tried to get into other cars on the bridge.
One video of the woman was recorded from a vehicle that drove right next to her as she pointed her gun and shot once and then pointed the gun into the air. It was obtained by KPIX-TV and included in its local report.
The incident led to the CHP closing the eastbound lanes on the Interstate-80 as well as a connector ramp in Oakland. Traffic came to a stop during one of the busiest times for the roadway.
CHP officers were able to locate the woman at about 6 p.m., and they ordered her to drop her weapons. She complied and was taken into custody so that she could be mentally and medically evaluated at a hospital.
Video from a news helicopter showed the woman being taken into custody by police.
CHP said that no injuries were reported.
The Bay Bridge runs between San Francisco and Oakland and carries about 260,000 vehicles per day. The bridge has one of the longest spans in the United States
