Britney Spears allegedly cracked her head open and required stitches after an explosive fight with her estranged husband, Sam Asghari, according to TMZ’s founder.

The fight allegedly happened just prior to their divorce and was highlighted in “Britney Spears: Divorce & Despair,” which aired Thursday on Fox. TMZ founder Harvey Levin alleged that Spears and Asghari became entangled in a verbal disagreement when the incident occurred. “She and Sam were going at it in a hotel room, and it got so bad [that] she tripped and hit the coffee table, cracking her head open,” Levin said.

Levin went on to say Spears sought medical attention and she “needed stitches,” according to Page Six.

During the episode, executive producer Charles Latibeaudiere alleged that Spear’s “volatility” had taken its toll on Asghari over the course of their relationship, and he was no longer able to handle it. It all became “too much” for Asghari to take, and he ultimately went to court and filed for divorce Aug. 16, after just 14 months of marriage, according to TMZ.

It is believed that the troubles in their marriage stemmed from the belief that Spears had cheated on Asghari by having an affair with a staff member in their home. There were rumblings about the possibility that Spears physically attacked Asghari while he was asleep, which caused a black eye. Sources close to Spears denied the allegations made against her.

“There was no cheating. And he’s 6 foot 2 and she’s 5 foot 4, so how could she attack him?” a source told TMZ.
