Britney Spears managed to evade doing time behind bars for a DUI charge after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors May 4 in Ventura County court.

The famous pop star had her DUI charge dismissed after agreeing to uphold strict conditions. Spears will be on probation for 12 months and agreed not to possess drugs without a valid prescription, according to TMZ. She is not to violate the law during probation. Spears’ DUI charge was reduced to a “wet reckless” charge — a term used to signify a crime more serious than simple reckless driving but less than a traditional DUI — and she was ordered to continue with her mental health and substance abuse treatment program.

Spears must complete a DUI class and continue meeting with a psychologist once a week and a psychiatrist twice a month, according to TMZ. She must also pay state-mandated fees and fines.

A violation of any of the conditions can result in jail time.

Spears was arrested March 4 for DUI and pleaded guilty in court.

She has displayed erratic behavior on social media and has reportedly previously traveled to Mexico to obtain Adderall on more than one occasion, according to TMZ.

“Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct,” her lawyer, Michael Goldstein, told TMZ.

“She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI.” (RELATED: REPORT: Britney Spears Voluntarily Checks Into Rehab Facility)

Spears checked herself into rehab shortly after her arrest and is seeking help for addiction. She has since been seen being driven by a chauffeur.

“Britney appreciates this discretion and is also grateful for the outpouring of support she has received,” Goldstein said, according to TMZ.
