The last time the Indiana Fever faced DiJonai Carrington and the Chicago Sky, Carrington clotheslined Fever guard Sophie Cunningham in a move that nearly led to a bench-clearing brawl.
There were no flagrant fouls this time around, but the Fever got the revenge they sought on the scoreboard.
Caitlin Clark had a historically good night, with 37 points, a career-high eight 3-pointers, and 10 assists in Indiana’s 113-90 beatdown of Chicago.
Much of that tour de force came at the expense of Carrington, who seemed to provoke Clark’s much-vaunted three-point shooting wrath by accusing the third-year superstar of flopping.
After drawing a foul on defense, Carrington went over to an official and claimed that Clark was engaging in theatrics to draw fouls.
The game was close late, but the Fever pulled away as Clark began raining threes, a good number of them, over Carrington.
In response, Carrington threw Clark a shoulder in transition, but it had no impact.
Carrington was kept on her toes throughout the game, as the Sky forward struggled mightily to stay in front of Clark.
The bad blood between Clark and Carrington goes back to the former’s rookie season, when Carrington poked her in the eye during the playoffs.
To add insult to injury, the loss knocked the Sky out of the playoff chase.
The win improved the Fever to 25-14 on the season and strengthened their hold on the fifth spot in the rankings.
