An organization aligned with House Democrats announced a $20 million initial effort Tuesday toward voter registration among crucial voting blocs ahead of 2024, according to a press release.
House Majority Forward, a liberal nonprofit, is aiming to mobilize a younger electorate through college campuses, as well as black, Latino and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters, according to the press release. The organization will focus its efforts in key states with crucial districts like Alaska, Iowa, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia and numerous others. “House Majority Forward is committed to expanding the electorate and ensuring everyone’s voice is heard on Election Day,” Executive Director Abby Curran Horrell said in a statement. “We must fight against those who shamelessly attempt to disenfranchise voters and look forward to playing a key role in empowering communities across the country.”
The organization is the nonprofit wing of House Majority PAC, the super PAC that aims to gain back Democratic control of the chamber. The organization is allocating resources to various other states across the country, including New Jersey, California, Maine, Arizona, Nebraska, Texas, Washington, New Mexico, Montana and Oregon, according to the press release.
The House GOP currently holds a four-seat majority, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is targeting 31 Republicans it views as vulnerable in 2024, according to the group’s website. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has its own list of potential pickups, and is eyeing 37 Democrat-held seats next year.
“Extreme House Democrats are in crisis mode — data shows nonwhite voters are fleeing their party because they hate how Bidenomics wrecked their budgets,” NRCC National Press Secretary Will Reinert told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “It’s no surprise radical dark-money liberal groups will spend millions in a desperate attempt to silence those alarm bells.”
Reinert pointed to the Bank Your Vote campaign, which seeks to bolster ballot harvesting and early voting in key states, as the committee’s similar effort. The NRCC is partnering up with the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) for the pre-election day voting efforts.
The Cook Political Report characterizes 13 Republican-held seats and ten Democrat-held seats in the “toss-up” category, and predicts that 189 are solid for the GOP and 172 are solid for the Democrats, according to its website.
The DCCC did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s requests for comment.
