Demi Lovato will make a cameo appearance in “Camp Rock 3,” reprising the role of Mitchie Torres.
The news comes just ahead of the Los Angeles premiere event on Monday. The movie will debut on Disney Channel on Thursday before streaming on Disney+ beginning Friday.
Previously, Lovato was announced to be executive producing without an on-screen role. Her return to the role of Mitchie comes 18 years after the original “Camp Rock” movie launched her career in 2008. Also returning to the franchise are the Jonas Brothers, who executive produce in addition to reprising their roles as brothers and Connect 3 bandmates Shane Gray (Joe Jonas), Nate Gray (Nick Jonas) and Jason Gray (Kevin Jonas). Maria Canals-Barrera also returns as Mitchie’s mother, Connie.
The official logline for “Camp Rock 3” reads, “When Connect 3 loses their opening act for a major reunion tour, they return to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing. As campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise and friendships are tested — leading to unexpected alliances, revelations and romances.” Liamani Segura stars opposite Variety‘s recent Power of Young Hollywood honoree and cover star Malachi Barton. Along with Segura, Barton, Lovato and the Jonas Brothers, the cast includes Lumi Pollack, Sherry Cola, Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts and Ava Jean.
Veronica Rodriguez directed “Camp Rock 3” from a screenplay by Eydie Faye. Executive producers include Tim Federle, Betsy Sullenger, Spencer Berman and Gary Marsh in addition to Lovato and the Jonas Brothers. Jamal Sims served as choreographer on the film, which was produced by Disney Kids & Family.
“Camp Rock” premiered in 2008 as the second-most-watched Disney Channel Original Movie of all time, and remains No. 3 to this day, coming behind only “High School Musical 2” and “Wizards of “Waverly Place: The Movie.” It was followed by “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” in 2010, which was Disney Channel’s biggest movie that year. Together, the “Camp Rock” films have been watched for more than 535 million hours to date.
