A chief meteorologist at a Des Moines, Iowa, news station quit his job after he says he suffered PTSD from a death threat he received over this activism against global warming.
Chris Gloninger posted his “quick goodbye” to viewers of KCCI-TV in a statement on Twitter on Wednesday.
“I am bidding farewell to TV to embark on a new journey dedicated to help solving the climate crisis,” he wrote in the statement.
“After a death threat stemming from my climate coverage last year and resulting PTSD, in addition to family health issues, I’ve decided to begin this journey *now*,” Gloninger claimed.
“I take immense pride in having educated the public about the impacts of climate change during my career,” he added. “Now, I will devote my full-time efforts to finding sustainable solutions and fostering positive change. Let’s confront this challenge head on and shape a more resilient future for generations to come.”
Gloninger made a point to use his job to teach his viewers about global warming, but he admits that many refused to warm up to the idea.
He had previously posted screenshots of harassing emails that ended in a death threat.
“Getting sick and tired of your libeal [sic] conspiracy theory on the weather, climate changes every day, always has, always will, your [sic] pushing nothing but a Biden hoax, go back to where you came from,” one email read.
The man was convicted over an email making a reference to a California man who was charged with attempted murder on a conservative Supreme Court justice.
“What’s your address, we conservative Iowans would like to give you an Iowan welcome you will never forget, kinda like the libtards gave JUDGE KAVANAUGH!!!!!!!” read the email.
A man from Lennox, Iowa, later pled guilty to misdemeanor harassment over the emails sent to Gloninger, and he received a fine of $105 from the Iowa District Court for Polk County.
Gloninger said he will join the Woods Hole Group, a consulting organization, as a lead scientist related to global warming.
