Famous actor Conleth Hill says he was “inconsolable” when he found out that his “Game of Thrones” character, Varys, was being killed off, and was even more upset by how showrunners did it.

Hill said the final season seemed “rushed” and described feeling that the authenticity of his character was not upheld. Hill had a recurring role as Varys on the hit HBO fantasy series since the very first season, and he was shocked to discover that Varys was burned to death by a dragon in the final season, according to The Times UK. He felt his character deserved more, and has had to make peace with the network’s decision.

Hill described how he felt when he realized the fate of his character.

#GameOfThrones actor Conleth Hill was “inconsolable” over Varys’ death: “I just felt frustrated with the last couple of [seasons] because Varys wasn’t the all-knowing character he had been…I felt that last series was a bit rushed.” https://t.co/8fGnNQMMfm

“I thought I’d done something wrong. Right up until the last two series, I had no complaints at all,” he told The Times UK. “I just felt frustrated with the last couple of series because Varys wasn’t the all-knowing character he had been,” he said.

The famous actor shared his perspective as to why his character was pushed in a different direction than what he had envisioned. “I think the writers wanted to do one thing to end it and the studio HBO wanted to do another,” he said. “I felt that last series was a bit rushed.” (RELATED: One ‘Game Of Thrones’ Video Is Going Viral On The Internet, And The Music Is Incredible)

“I was inconsolable, but now I’m fine about it.”

Many “Game of Thrones” fans agreed with Hill that the show’s final season felt rushed. The episode count was trimmed down to six episodes instead of the usual 10, and didn’t allow for the same level of depth and character development, according to Variety.
