What a joke.
It appears that Rory McIlroy will not be receiving any kind of punishment despite not meeting the requirement from the PGA Tour to play at least 15 events in a season. (RELATED: Wyndham Clark’s Sports Psychologist, Meant To Help Mental Toughness, Abandons Him In Middle Of US Open)
It’s likely that McIlroy will have 14 starts in the 2026 PGA Tour campaign, which falls one short of the circuit’s rule.
According to numerous reports, via Yahoo Sports, commissioner Brian Rolapp is planning on using the PGA’s discretionary “extenuating circumstances” clause. The move would allow McIlroy to sustain his Tour membership with no penalty attached.
Rory will fail to meet the PGA Tour’s 15-event minimum this year, but apparently will NOT be penalized.
There is an “extenuating circumstances” clause that the Tour can use at its discretion, and they’re choosing to do so for Rory this year.
Thoughts on this?

Sure, the PGA Tour has the defense of saying the rule in its handbook, but fans won’t care, because they’re already furious at the reports circulating around. A lot of fans, and folks in the media while we’re at it (such as me), are under the belief that the PGA is providing McIlroy with special treatment due to him being a superstar.
And honestly, can you blame them?
I wish @PGATOUR was transparent enough to tell us what the “extenuating circumstances” were. He was never injured. I dont think he played an @DPWorldTour events. Seems to me like they gave him a pass so he wouldn’t get upset.

This is clearly special treatment. All players have the freedom to skip events to prepare for majors. But not all players have the freedom to not meet the required minimum and not be penalized

Kick him out. Nobody even likes him. He has one good tournament a year🤷🏻♂️

One rule for ONE and one for all the rest. The bloke is a jumped up arrogant twat. Thinks its all about him. I bet all the other players and sponsors are over the moon.

BS. I don’t care that he plays major courses before the event, but doing it while skipping out on other tournaments when other players would be penalized for doing the exact same thing is a complete joke.

The beef between me and you is back on, Rory … you’re a prick and you never fail to prove otherwise.
