A story about “Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan reclaiming his iconic film “Wind River” from convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein started recirculating online in August.
Sheridan’s battle to get “Wind River” back from The Weinstein Company was first reported by Vanity Fair in 2017. The film centers on sexual assault within Native American communities and was eight weeks into its release when news of Weinstein’s sexual aggression broke.
“Each day a subsequent story broke, and it got progressively worse, and things went from coercion and harassment to assault,” Sheridan told the outlet at the time. “At that point, feeling sick, it became a revelation that … I can’t have a film about violence against women silenced by the perpetrator of that very act. I called the financier, I called the producer, I called Jeremy [Renner], and Lizzie [Olsen], and I said, ‘This is what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna take it back.’”

Weinstein was a producer on the film, despite contentious negotiations with Sheridan, per Vanity Fair. Learning of Weinstein’s behavior was a “gut-punch,” so Sheridan reportedly called then-Weinstein Co. President and COO David Glasser to remove the film from the company.
Glasser was apparently as distraught as Sheridan about the news, Vanity Fair noted. And clearly Glasser’s affiliation with the company didn’t leave a scar, since Glasser is now helping Sheridan build his television empire with Paramount. Weinstein’s name no longer appears on anything to do with “Wind River,” as Variety reported. Sheridan has gone on to become one of the most successful filmmakers and television writers in history.
