Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) attempted to get in some digs during a social media debate over affordability, only to be ridiculed for his “get off my lawn” tone.

It all started on Tuesday, after conservative pundit Matt Walsh said that many conservatives who were “denying the affordability crisis” were “engaged in what I can only describe as an act of political suicide.”

Some conservatives agreed, including Turning Point USA’s Andrew Kolvet, who noted anecdotal evidence that some college students have been paying $20 for a burrito.

Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen added to the online discourse, writing on X, “Cry me a river. The burritos in the college cafeteria are included in your meal plan.”

Other conservatives chimed in on the debate, with Ben Shapiro insisting that “We have enough problems as a country without insane expectations that the government is going to provide us gourmet-quality burritos.”

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance mocked Thiessen, saying, “If you’ve ever met him in person, it’s quite obvious the man has never missed a burrito.”

It’s likely that Crenshaw, who lost a primary earlier this year, saw a ripe opportunity to own someone, anyone, whether it be the libs, college kids who like burritos or (checks notes) communists.

Perhaps that’s why he began his “old man shakes fist at cloud” post by starting it like this:

“Just hearing about this dumb $20 burrito debate so just thought I’d make the losers on social media angry before going to bed.”

He continued the charm offensive (emphasis on the offensive) by saying, “Stop whining, get a job, eat Ramen like the rest of us did in college, on a budget with 4 roommates.”

“The market doesn’t care what you think something ‘should’ cost. Only communists care (they set prices remember? Then everyone starves, remember?)

Are you a communist? Or are you an American adult male capable of handling his own shit?”

Just hearing about this dumb $20 burrito debate so just thought I’d make the losers on social media angry before going to bed.

Stop whining, get a job, eat Ramen like the rest of us did in college, on a budget with 4 roommates.

The market doesn’t care what you think something…

If Crenshaw thought his rant would inspire the hearts and minds of his fellow citizens or help his political career, he was sadly mistaken based on the responses.

Many social media users claimed Crenshaw wasn’t exactly a self-made man.

Republicans: It would be wise not to take messaging advice from Dan Crenshaw. His own “messaging” just got him beaten by double digits in a Republican primary in a deep-red Texas seat. He is politically incompetent and inept. https://t.co/dx8qiuUD9z
