CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten highlighted a new Marquette University Law School poll showing President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement losing even more support from Trump’s most significant voter base.
Enten, during a Friday “News Central” appearance, told host John Berman that Trump’s net favorability rating among non-college adults was +6 points in October 2024 — but the latest data for July shows Trump now sitting at -22 points.
“Down we go into the Atlantic Ocean,” Enten said.
He added, “That is a shift, Johnny B., of 28 points away from the MAGA movement, away — with non-college Americans. So the bottom line is this: The group in which the Trump movement was built upon, they are shifting away and saying, ‘We don’t like MAGA anymore.’”
Enten mentioned the possibility that Trump might see those numbers and think voters “soured on MAGA” rather than him, but noted that his “Enten’s Aggregate” of several polls suggests otherwise.
“In the 2024 election, he won them by 13 points, right?” Enten said. “That was the reason he won. He won among non-college voters, a very strong performance amongst them. And that, of course, was the reason he was able to win, because college voters were against him.”
He continued, “But look at this now, minus 19 points. We’re talking about an even bigger shift here. We’re talking about, what is this, this is a 32-point shift away from the president of the United States when it comes to his key core political group.”
Enten also noted things have changed for the Republican Party since the 2024 election, when non-college voters said they preferred a GOP-led House by +13 points — only for Democrats to take the lead with +1 point among that group of voters today.
Congressional Republicans might thus face serious trouble in the upcoming midterm elections, which numerous conservative pundits have long warned about. For Enten, the most shocking shift still appeared to be the plummeting support for Trump from his key base.
“This is why he’s in so much trouble,” said Enten. “It’s not just that college voters are against Trump. Now it turns out that non-college voters, the ones that he built his presidential bid on, have waved, ‘Adios, goodbye, see you later, Mr. Trump — we don’t like you anymore.’”
