Jim Jordan issues subpoenas to officials over ‘Disinformation’ board and NSBA domestic terror request to investigate parents

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) issued subpoenas related to two controversial incidents during the Biden administration on Monday.

Jordan posted the letter sent to Nina Jankowicz, the former Biden official who had been tapped to hear the heavily criticized “Disinformation Governance Board.”

The letter said the Judiciary Committee had previously asked Jankowicz to cooperate voluntarily before issuing the subpoena compelling her appearance.

“We have repeatedly sought information from you concerning your official actions and duties as a DHS employee and former Executive Director of the Board, including how the Board intended to define disinformation, how it planned to collect information and from what sources, how it anticipated countering disinformation, and how it proposed to protect First Amendment rights,” read the letter from Jordan.

The disinformation board was disbanded only three weeks after its creation, and Jankowicz resigned. She was heavily mocked and ridiculed over a parody song she sang about disinformation and to the tune of the “Mary Poppins” song “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

Jordan posted a separate letter from the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government to Chip Slaven, the former interim director of the National School Boards Association, and Viola Garcia, the secretary-treasure of the NSBA.

“The Committee on the Judiciary (Committee) is conducting oversight of the misuse of criminal and counterterrorism resources by the executive branch against concerned parents at local school board meetings and the effect on parents’ protected First Amendment activity,” read the letter.

The NSBA was heavily criticized over a letter asking President Joe Biden to investigate parents at school board meetings across the country as domestic terrorists. The organization later apologized for the letter over the massive public backlash.

“On behalf of NSBA, we regret and apologize for the letter. To be clear, the safety of school board members, other public school officials and educators, and students is our top priority, and there remains important work to be done on this issue,” read the statement.

“However, there was no justification for some of the language included in the letter. We should have had a better process in place to allow for consultation on a communication of this significance,” they added.

Critics accused the NSBA of trying to use the power of the federal government to curb parental opposition to controversial inclusions in school curricula, including critical race theory and LGBTQ advocacy.
