Michael Desronvil, the juror who couldn’t come to an agreement with his 11 peers about Lindsay Clancy’s criminal responsibility, ultimately leading the judge to declare a mistrial, has finally spoken out about his role in the trial.
“I didn’t have any doubts,” Desronvil said in a statement given to CBS News by his representative, Ray Marcel. “As I tried to explain different possible theories during deliberation, I kept getting cut off as if I had doubts based on the evidence present.”
“Based on all the physical evidence, key witnesses, and what the prosecution presents, I thought it was enough proof that she knew exactly what she was doing and planned,” Desronvil’s statement said.
After seven days of deliberation, the jury couldn’t come to a unanimous decision on whether Clancy should be held criminally responsible for killing her three children in 2023. Clancy took responsibility for the killings but pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, as her defense argued she suffered from postpartum psychosis and wasn’t provided the medical care she needed.
Several jurors spoke out about their experiences in the weeks following the mistrial, accusing Desronvil of admitting he had reasonable doubt that Clancy should be held criminally responsible.
Juror Paula Devlin told NBC10 Boston that Desronvil “was very arrogant.”
“He really did not take anything that anybody said,” she said.
Before Desronvil broke his silence, NBC10 Boston reported he has a history of domestic abuse allegations, including a restraining order against him filed by his nephew for allegedly punching him. He also faced a charge for allegedly assaulting his then-wife in 2021.
In the weeks following the mistrial, some have condemned and threatened Desronvil over his decision to block Clancy’s acquittal.
His attorney, Edward Andrew Paltzik, said Desronvil is “safe and sound at an undisclosed secure location in a rural area of Northern New England.”
“This American Hero and Champion of Justice loves the United States of America as the greatest country in the world; cherishes our sacred Constitution as the pinnacle of human liberty; and supports our amazing leader, President Donald J. Trump, as a fellow defender of common-sense, liberty, and sanity,” Paltzik wrote in a social media post.
He continued: “Rest assured that the evil people who have so viciously attacked this American Hero and Champion of Justice will be held accountable to the maximum extent of the law and beyond. In the meantime, though, he has persevered and remains utterly unbroken thanks to his devout Catholic Faith.”
It’s unclear what will happen next in Clancy’s case, with the prosecution and defense set to meet for a status hearing later this month.
Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, made a public plea to Trump, asking for a pardon, even though she is facing state charges. Reddington said he would also argue to have the case dismissed.
Clancy’s ex-husband, Patrick, and his new wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, are set to appear in a “60 Minutes” interview with correspondent Ross Douthat scheduled to air Sunday.
