MAGA commentator Bill Mitchell was skewered online after suggesting Thursday that Americans should eat veggie burgers as ground beef prices soar.
“With regards to beef prices, have you ever tried a veggie burger?” Mitchell posted on X Thursday. “They’re actually really good. A little lettuce, tomato, pickles, a portobello mushroom, slice of Swiss cheese. Excellent.”
Yet Republicans have also recently been using veganism as a political smear against their Democratic midterm rivals.
One such Democrat is Senate candidate James Talarico in Texas. Talarico is not vegan and has been photographed eating meat, but Republicans have nevertheless labeled him “Tofu Talarico.”
Trump bizarrely said of Talarico, “He eats meat, and he goes outside, and he throws up all over the place.”
So people online were quick to question Mitchell’s sudden cheerleading for meat alternatives.
Mitchell, for his part, defended his endorsement of veggie burgers in a follow-up post, saying, “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I think they’re great when prepared well.”
