Mark Margolis, best known for the role he played in “Breaking Bad,” and “Better Call Saul,” died at Mount Sinai hospital in New York City on Thursday at the age of 83.

His death was confirmed by his son Morgan Margolis, as well as his business manager, Robert Kolker, according to CBS News. Morgan said the famous actor suffered from a short illness before his death. Morgan was by his side at the time of his death, as was his wife, Jacqueline Margolis, according to the statement. Kolker remembered the famous actor as a “lifelong friend,” according to CBS News.

“He was one of a kind,” Kolker said in a statement. “We won’t see his likes again … I was lucky to know him.”

He initially catapulted to fame by playing hitman Alberto “The Shadow” in the epic 1983 hit, “Scarface.”

Margolis was nominated for an Emmy in 2012 for his performance in the role of a cartel chief named Hector “Tio” Salmanca on “Breaking Bad.” His character used a bell to communicate after suffering loss of speech following a stroke.

The “Breaking Bad” official social media account paid tribute to Margolis and mourned his death by sharing touching words Friday.

“We join millions of fans in mourning the passing of the immensely talented Mark Margolis, who – with his eyes, a bell, and very few words – turned Hector Salamanca into one of the most unforgettable characters in the history of television,” they wrote.
