McCarthy calls out reporter for blinding problem in attempt to pit him against his own party: ‘You haven’t quoted anybody’

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy called out a reporter on Tuesday for trying to pit him against members of his own party.

At a press conference where he defended the potential of opening an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, a reporter asked McCarthy to respond “to the moderates in your party who say you continue to side with and appease the right wing on many issues.”

McCarthy immediately pointed out the problem with the reporter’s question. She claimed McCarthy is at odds with other Republicans, but did not say who or what contentions allegedly exist.

“Well, I don’t know because you haven’t quoted anybody,” he snapped. “You just say something. You say — you frame some brand of something.”

McCarthy proceeded to defend the potential of an impeachment inquiry. It’s about uncovering the truth, he explained.

“Congress has a responsibility for the investigation wing. All I’m saying is, and I’m sure you’d probably ask the same question: where’s the truth? You’ve got to get to the bottom of the truth. And the only way Congress can do that is go to impeachment inquiry that gives Republicans and Democrats the ability to get all the information,” he said.

Ironically enough, Democrats used the same argument in 2019 to justify opening an impeachment inquiry into then-President Donald Trump. As the proverb goes: what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

But on Tuesday, McCarthy stopped short of announcing an official impeachment inquiry. Still, he warned that any efforts by the White House to obstruct congressional investigations will leave him with no option but to begin impeachment proceedings.

For years, Biden has maintained that he was not involved in Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings and that he never even discussed business with his son. But Devon Archer, longtime business associate of Hunter’s, is expected to testify to Congress that Biden did discuss business with Hunter at least two dozen times.

When news of that forthcoming testimony broke, the White House, pressed once again on Biden’s denials, finally changed its story.

“The president was never in business with his son,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Monday.
