McDonald’s is rolling out a retro run of its shape-shifting “Changeables” Happy Meal toys starting Tuesday, aiming to cash in on nostalgia nearly four decades after the line first debuted.
The fast-food giant is reviving the Transformers-like toys that turn familiar McDonald’s items into robots or dinosaurs — a fan-favorite throwback that originally launched in 1987 and later returned in 1989 and 1990. (RELATED: Husband Sues McDonalds After ‘Vagrant’ Allegedly Attacked, Killed Wife)
“McDonald’s Changeables are back on 1.27, featuring updated versions of both the robot and dinosaur designs from the original three Happy Meal programs released in 1987, 1989, and 1990,” McDonald’s senior marketing director Guillaume Huin wrote on X, adding that “Changeables were — by far — the most requested Happy Meal program on X, across social media platforms and through customer service.”

The 2026 run includes 16 collectibles modeled after McDonald’s staples — including packaging, menu items, and in-store equipment — that flip into character designs, according to coverage of the lineup.
Names in the set include Boo Bot (a jack-o’-lantern Boo Bucket that transforms into a robot), Teef Rex (a Happy Meal box that turns into a dinosaur), FR-13S (World Famous Fries that become a robot), and Drinkobius-999 (a soda machine that transforms into a robot).
