Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are clashing over how much of their children’s lives should be exposed to the spotlight – with the couple said to have fundamentally different instincts about Archie and Lilibet growing up famous.

As RadarOnline.com has reported, the Duchess of Sussex, 45, has increasingly shared glimpses of Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, including Easter footage of them hunting for eggs at home.

Harry, 42, is said to favor greater privacy because of his own experience growing up under intense scrutiny, while Markle believes carefully controlling what the public sees could help their children navigate the inevitable interest surrounding them.

A source close to the couple claimed, “Harry and Meghan are coming at this from almost opposite life experiences, and that’s really at the heart of the disagreement. Harry never had any say over becoming a public figure – cameras, headlines and enormous worldwide interest were part of his existence virtually from birth.

“Meghan’s experience was completely different because she entered the entertainment industry as an adult and actively built a public profile. Inevitably, that has given them very different perspectives on what visibility means for their children.

“For Harry, the most important thing is preserving Archie and Lilibet’s ability to make their own decision when they’re old enough to understand what that decision involves. He doesn’t want choices made during their childhood to create a public identity that follows them for the rest of their lives and forces them into a life in the spotlight.”

The insider noted, “His own experience has taught him that once people become invested in your personal life, drawing a boundary later can be incredibly difficult. That’s why he’s particularly cautious about establishing any pattern where photographs, videos or details about the children become something people regularly expect.”

“It isn’t necessarily about one photograph or one social media post – he’s thinking about the precedent it creates and where that could eventually lead. He would rather err heavily on the side of privacy while they’re young and allow them to decide later whether they want anything different.

The source claimed, “Meghan’s argument comes from another direction. She believes Archie and Lilibet will attract attention whatever she and Harry do, because of who their parents are and their connection to the royal family. Her feeling is that completely shutting everything down could actually increase fascination and speculation rather than reduce it.

“She believes there is a middle ground where they occasionally share carefully selected moments without surrendering control of the children’s private lives. She also strongly rejects the suggestion that this means preparing Archie and Lilibet for careers in entertainment or deliberately turning them into celebrities. “

According to the royal insider, “In Meghan’s mind, showing a carefully chosen family moment is completely different from putting a child on a stage, sending them to auditions or building a commercial career around them. She believes it’s possible for them to grow up understanding their unusual position without being consumed by it.

“That distinction hasn’t completely reassured Harry because his threshold for what constitutes too much exposure is naturally much lower. He knows how quickly seemingly harmless interest can escalate when the public feels an attachment to somebody from childhood, and he doesn’t want Archie or Lilibet discovering years from now that decisions were effectively made for them before they could have a voice.”

They added, “They’ve had some pretty intense discussions about it because this touches on something incredibly important to both of them. Neither believes the other is being careless or doesn’t have the children’s interests at heart.

“In fact, that’s partly why it’s difficult to resolve – they’re both approaching it from a place of wanting to protect Archie and Lilibet, but their definitions of protection are very different. Meghan believes protection can include managing public interest intelligently and setting firm boundaries around what gets shown.

“Harry’s instinct is that the safest boundary is simply to give away as little as possible until the children themselves are capable of choosing otherwise. As Archie and Lilibet grow older, that’s becoming a much bigger conversation for them rather than something they can easily brush aside.”

Markle’s social media posts have generally avoided clearly displaying the children’s faces, while showing them reading, gardening, cooking and spending time with their parents.

Archie and Lilibet also appeared in imagery connected with her As Ever lifestyle business and in a recent update posted on Instagram showing the Sussexes’ new life in Britain.

Harry’s sensitivity toward media attention has been shaped largely by the experiences of his mother, Princess Diana, who died aged 36 in a Paris car crash in 1997 after being pursued by photographers.

Markle, meanwhile, pursued an acting career before marrying Harry and becoming a working member of the royal family.

Markle is said to regard the carefully managed public appearances of Prince William, 44, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, 44, with their children as evidence that royal visibility and privacy can co-exist.
